I'm not sure how this looks like cables, but okay. Overall a very simple stitch, and would look pretty good on a scarf or hat, but there are other stitches I would personally prefer using.

This stitch produces a really nice double-sided pattern. I like that one side is lines and the other side is triangles. It took me a while to notice that I had to chain 4 at the beginning of every other row, so I always found myself one stitch too short! I did figure it out about 3/4 of the way through, and then I had no problems. I think this stitch would make a nice blanket or scarf.

I think this pattern has frustrated me more than any other so far. No matter how I interpret it, stick my hook in different stitches, or skip or add new stitches, I just can't get it to come out. I tried skipping row 2 and just moving on to row 4, then repeating 3 and 4, but that just started increasing every row (even if I skipped stitches!), leading to a giant triangular piece. The repeating part of each row has you working through 4 stitches (skip 1, work 1, skip 1, work 4), but that actually makes 5 stitches in the next row. So it truly makes no sense. I can't ignore the work 1 because the pattern explicitly says to work into that stitch in particular, so I end up with my stitches being off at the end of the row.
I'm sad to say that I had to give up on this pattern, as I couldn't find anything on the internet that could help me. "Berry stitch" was an unfortunate name for this as the entirety of the internet believes this should be a popcorn stitch.

Finally, I've come up with a good pattern for a cherry blossom applique! It took me a lot of flowers of trial and effort before I came up with a cherry blossom I'm satisfied with. I can't decide which I like more, the compact version or the one with the holes, so I've included both. Each flower takes only a few minutes from start to finish. You can use any kind of yarn with its corresponding hook to create the size you want. Larger sizes may benefit from the larger pattern, but both look great either way.  Small Cherry Blossom: |

I quite like this stitch, except that there was a lot of pointless double crochet. The shell-X's are pretty interesting and give a nice ridge on the back. I think the shell-X part of this stitch would be a neat addition to a hat or scarf, as they're easy to do, nicely textured, and have the same number of stitches in each row.

The finished square looks pretty nice in person; the photos cannot do it justice. However, the pattern takes a long time to do simply because each row is very similar but with minor differences. I had to redo several rows and occasionally started doing the wrong thing halfway through the row, but the one good thing is that if I miss a stitch somewhere it's either not likely to make a difference, or I'll notice right away and be able to fix it.
Both sides of this pattern look pretty neat. The front has the diamond/wave ridges and the back has wavy X's. This stitch would be good for either a scarf or afghan.

I still think that Wrap It Up is more suited to the name Beehive. I'm not really sure why they called this one Beehive at all, in fact. It's pretty interesting, but I can't think of a use for it.

I've been making lots of flowers lately, and wasn't quite satisfied with any of them, so I decided to try making my own! I really liked having the center hole in the flower for attaching with a button, but small, defined petals.
You can make these with any yarn and corresponding size hook, so you can make this in any size you want.
R1: Make a magic ring, 11sc in the ring. slst into first st, pull closed just enough to keep a hole but stitches meet.
R2: Turn, *ch4, sl st into next 2 st* around, sl st into last st.
R3: sl st into next ch4 space, (ch2, 2dc, ch2, sl st into same ch4 space, sl st into next ch4 space) around. At the end, sl st into the first ch of the last petal.
Cut a long end of yarn and weave into back of petals to stabilize shape of the flower. Weave in the end of the yarn coming from the ring, shaping the hole and ring to the size you want.

This square took a bit of time to make because every other row was essentially single crochet, because the front posts had the effective height of single crochet. Overall, it looks pretty nice, but I'd prefer some of the other stitches like Textured Diagonal.

This stitch is pretty cute! It's quite textured and bulky but also lacy; it's an interesting combination! My mom thought the wraps looked like cornucopias! This stitch would make for a cute scarf.

This stitch is basically the Ladders stitch except alternating after every stitch instead of groups of stitches. Not much to say! It's pretty neat otherwise, but I think a scarf made with this stich would be much too thick to be practical. It just wouldn't wrap very well. Any object made with it wouldn't be stretchy either, unfortunately.

I was looking for some more tiny patterns for my friend to use with her jewelery, and found this one by Rosy Colour. It was incredibly quick and easy. I think the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. I will definitely be making more of these!

This stitch is actually pretty interesting, and would be pretty neat as a scarf, but the yarn I used was just so thick that it made this square frustrating to work with. I would rather favor the lighter-weight yarns, but I'd also prefer to use up the bad stuff. Its so strange how different color yarns of the same brand and style can be so different.

I'm really disappointed with this stitch. The half double crochet crossovers were very difficult to do simply because the yarn was all close together and hard to put the hook in the right spot. On top of that, it hardly looks like anything unique. It looks a lot like Crimp Stitch, except without the defining lines.

I've wanted to make the Piano Key Scarf by Rachel Choi since I first started crocheting, but I never thought I was good enough. Finally after doing so much crocheting lately, I took a look at it again, and decided I was ready. This scarf was a present for my best friend because she loves to play piano!
Each key took a long time to do because of all the color changes, but after a few rows I didn't need to look at the pattern anymore to figure out what to do next; it was easy to figure out which row I needed to work and when. Sometimes I'd find myself pausing for a moment and thinking "what am I doing?" and then I'd realize I was already doing the correct keys, without even noticing!
I made a few changes based on azabuey's 88 keys pattern, namely adding some rows to the beginning and end, and 12 stitches for the black keys and 8 stitches for the white keys instead of 10 each.
Note: all additions are using front loop only and referenced rows are those in the original pattern.
After row 2:
2a: work row 3
2b: work row 4
2c: work row 9
2d: work row 10
Continue with row 3, following instructions for 7 repeats of 3 and 2 key sets, then continue as follows (after row 7 as the original pattern suggests):
Continue with rows 8 through 10
Work rows 3 through 7
Finish off.
I chose a reverse single crochet stitch for the border, to give it a bit of interesting texture but not distract from the overall pattern. It was my first time attempting this stitch, and I think it came out well! I really like how swirly it looks, and since it doesn't make a flat border, tiny fluctuations in the edges aren't as noticeable.
I used an H hook and Caron Simply Soft White and Black yarns. I used about 3 ounces of White and 2 ounces of Black, which equals about 105 yards of Black and 160 yards of White. The finished product was 52 inches long and 5 inches wide.

This square isn't too bad, actually. The X's are a bit hard to see if the square isn't stretched a bit; they just look like diagonal stitches. There are also nice bumpy ridges on the back so this pattern is very heavily textured.
I used a J hook with CraftSmart Bright Red yarn.

I made these tiny chickens for the members of my Ingress Enlightened group, whose mascot is a chicken.
See my previous chicken doorstop here. These chickens are based off this pattern by The Nimble Mouse, but since I wanted to make them smaller with worsted weight yarn, I had to improvise the rounds a bit.
Embroider eyes.
Comb:
In 3rd st from left: sc, ch2, slst in next st, ch3, slst in next st, finish off and weave in ends.
Beak:
Just below the eyes, sc in an edge st, ch2, sc in next st, finish off and weave in ends.
I used an E hook with Vanna's Choice Oatmeal yarn.
